Giving Hope, Career Options to Underprivileged Students
A front office management school, the Warschaw Learning Institute, gives graduating high school students a chance at careers they might not otherwise be able to afford via conventional college classes.
West Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) August 12, 2005 -- “I had no plans to go to
college,” says Diana Castro of Huntington Beach, CA. “Like some kids I just
wanted to get out of school, work and party like a rock star.” All that changed
for Castro when a friend told her about Warschaw Learning Institute.
Founded in 2000, the Warschaw Learning Institute, www.warschawlearninginstitute.com, has economically opened
doors for high school students, like Castro, who otherwise didn’t have any other
options for college.
As Director Cathy Warschaw explains, “Many high
school students in the years nearing graduation lack the thousands of dollars,
or hundreds of thousands, for colleges or universities. Also, many parents can’t
afford to make ends meet, much less pay for outrageous school loans. After
spending 8 years managing a dental practice I decided to train people in how the
front office works in the dental industry. Of everyone that works in a dental
practice they are the ones that have complete control over the practice and can
make or break the business.”
Seeing a need that had to be filled,
Warschaw began training high school grads at a brick and mortar location. But
now, thanks to the Internet, anyone can become a certified dental office manger.
In addition, their dental front office course is offered in five other languages
- Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Russian and Farsi. With the help of instructors like
Mary Lambourne, who spent years in the front office of dental practices before
joining Warschaw Learning Institute in 2003, the school continues to grow and
reach out to students about to leave high school, but who are uncertain about
their futures.
“I believe the course is successful because it covers
everything necessary for an efficient front office,” Lambourne says. “We’re
fulfilling a need that no other course I know of can do, and watching each
student build the confidence and skills to qualify them for employment in a new
and exciting career is wonderful. As for the program itself, a student has the
benefit of an instructor the entire time they are taking the course and we’re in
close contact with them at all times. The course is fun, informative and
complete."
High school students aren’t the only ones that rely on WLI.
They also train dentists, cross-train dental assistants and re-train front
office staff. Students like Diana Castro, however, are the true spirit of
Warschaw Learning Institute.
As Warschaw says, “Being able to see what a
difference we make in other people’s lives is the best part about this
business.” Castro completely agrees with Warschaw since the young woman is
living proof.
“It's totally changed my life,” Castro says
enthusiastically. “I wouldn't have the job I love today. I wouldn't have met all
the cool and famous people I have. I wouldn't live in the sunny, breezy,
beautiful city of Huntington Beach. Who knows how my life would have turned out
if I hadn’t found WLI? Truth is, I would probably be working at a mall or fast
food place, still living with my parents. But now I have my own home, my own
career and a solid future.”
