Florida C.E.R.T. Association sponsores 4TH Annual Florida Citizens Emergency Response Team Conference
The 4TH Annual Florida CERT Conference, sponsored by the Florida CERT Association, Inc. and hosted by the Polk County CERT Association, will be held January 13-16, 2005 at The Lakeland Center in Lakeland, Polk County, Florida.
(PRWEB) November 28, 2004 -- The 4TH Annual Florida CERT Conference,
sponsored by the Florida CERT Association, Inc. and hosted by the Polk County
CERT Association, will be held January 13-16, 2005 at The Lakeland Center in
Lakeland, Polk County, Florida.
The weekend begins with early
registration at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, followed by a Welcome Mixer at Holiday
Inn Lakeland-South sponsored by Porche Fire Equipment (Lakeland).
After
Opening Ceremonies on Friday, classes are offered throughout the day. Courses
include Documentation, Scene Size-Up, ICS Set-Up, Electrical Hazards, Basic
First Aid, Moulage and Triage, Mitigation Strategies, Fire Extinguishers,
Chainsaw Safety, Terrorism Issues, Sanitation in Disasters, FEMA Overview,
Cribbing, Traffic Control, Tabletop Exercise and Grid Search.
A simulated
disaster drill is scheduled for Saturday morning. Breakfast and lunch at the
drill site will be provided by the Salvation Army, and transportation to and
from the drill site is included in the cost of registration. The drill is
sponsored by OnScreen Technologies, Inc. (Safety Harbor).
Saturday
afternoon classes include Animals in Disaster, Self-Defense Tactics, After
Disaster Recovery Issues, Water Safety, Skywarn, CISD, Grants, Special Needs
Assessment, Crime Scene Preservation, Introduction to Ham Radio, Ham Radio in
Emergency Communications and Radio Techniques. Transportation will be provided
for tours of the EOC and Comm Center.
Wear your loudest Hawaiian shirt to
the "Polynesian Paradise" themed Saturday Banquet. Cost is included in
registration. The Florida CERT Association Annual Meeting follows the
Banquet.
Sunday morning features brunch at 10:00 a.m. ($9.00 pre-paid);
Closing Ceremonies; presentation of awards; and door prizes, silent auction and
50/50 drawing. (You must be present to win.)
Cost of the Conference is
$30 for Florida CERT Association members, $40 for non-members, and $50 for
everyone after December 1, 2004.
