Bowling is a Lifetime Sport, Requiring Players to Take Care of Feet
Since bowling has no age, gender or physical limitations, it's a lifetime sport - one that anyone can enjoy during the course of their entire lives. However, as with any other sport, it requires watching out for injuries and taking care of your feet.
(PRWEB) August 25, 2005 -- The sport of bowling has existed in one form or
another for centuries and is enjoyed by 95 million people in over ninety
countries worldwide.
It's the number one participation sport in the
United States, with 53 million people bowling at least once a year. One reason
for its huge popularity is the fact that it's a recreation sport that can be
enjoyed year round, day or night and regardless of the weather. In America, it's
recognized as the number one sport for family participation, and it's also a
favorite of individuals with both physical and developmental disabilities.
Since bowling has no age, gender or physical limitations, it's a
lifetime sport - one that anyone can enjoy during the course of their entire
lives. However, as with any other sport, it requires watching out for injuries
and taking care of your feet.
One "lifetimer" is Harry Lysy, a resident
of Blandon, Pennsylvania, who participates in league bowling. Now in his
seventies, Lysy started bowling in 1940, when he was nine years of age. He says
he took to bowling like a duck takes to water, ending up his very first year at
the National Bowling Championships in New York City. According to Lysy, "Bowling
is very good exercise; it's a good way to stay in shape." He also points out
that it's a good way for people to stay active socially, especially as they get
older.
Bowling shoes designed specifically for the sport are an essential
piece of equipment, providing stability and traction on surfaces that can vary
widely between facilities. C. J. Buck is an expert on problems related to feet.
CEO of Princeton, New Jersey-based Xenna Corporation, which distributes foot
care products, Buck says, "Well-supported shoes made for specifically for the
sport are critical, but so is the need for comfort."
Like all people who
play sports, bowlers are at risk for developing overuse injuries and other
problems such as calluses. Two products, NonyX® Nail Gel and CalleX® Callus
Ointment address the problems of yellow, discolored toenails and dry, cracked or
callused heels and hands. For bowlers, thumbs are especially vulnerable to
callus formation, but calluses can also develop on the soles of feet.
Podiatrists recommend the natural enzymes found in acid-free CalleX Ointment for
soft, supple heels and to exfoliate callus. Newly patented, CalleX has been
shown in consumer studies to significantly reduce callus, dry, flaking skin and
cracking on soles and heels within 15 to 30 days. Safe for diabetic use, CalleX
moisturizes dry, rough or flaky skin, and exfoliates and thins callused areas,
while leaving normal skin unaffected.
Patented NonyX® Nail Gel was
developed to provide a solution to the problem of yellow, dark or discolored
nails, a common problem for older bowlers. Buck says, "NonyX Gel is a topical,
easy-to-use gel that breaks down and removes keratin debris - the discolored,
yellow or thick granular buildup under nails which is the actual source of nail
discoloration. It softens keratin debris using natural ethanoic acid, and
permits it to be scraped out from under the nail after about four weeks. Once
keratin debris is removed, NonyX Gel keeps nails looking clear and attractive
with regular use."
According to Buck, "Bowling draws attention to how
comfortable one is in one's shoes. There is a psychological need to feel very
confident on the bowling lane, and the wrong shoes can make you feel uncertain
about your form, causing you to lose confidence when you need it most. The same
goes for your appearance overall. When some part of you is ugly or embarrassing,
you just don't feel good about yourself. While others may or may not notice your
flaw, you are aware of it and that's enough to jar your self-confidence. At
Xenna we strive to make products that get rid of those embarrassing problems
with easy-to-use, natural solutions."
NonyX Nail Gel can be purchased in
