Denver, Colo. (PRWEB via PressReleaseHelp) August 23,
2005 -- Children delight in the online adventures of a curious dog named Sonya
as it travels to World Heritage Sites around the globe on the website www.WorldHeritagePointer.com and its e-zine (electronic
newsletter).
Kid-oriented stories showcase the wonder and beauty of World
Heritage Sites, the 21st-century successors to the ancient Seven Wonders of the
World. They include such extraordinary places as the Great Wall of China and
Yellowstone National Park.
"The World Heritage Pointer offers fun
activities with an educational twist," said the website's creator, Rose Muenker,
an award-winning travel writer. "While children read the adventure stories, they
learn about fascinating cultures and natural environments around the world.
Puzzles and games build on the facts and vocabulary in the stories."
The
website (www.WorldHeritagePointer.com) and its e-zine feature five fun
activities that help children learn about the world. Depending on their age,
kids do them on their own or together with a parent, grandparent or other adult.
These five activities are:
1. Read an adventure story.
In each story, Sonya, the World Heritage Pointer, explores a World Heritage
Site. Each story is presented in three episodes over a six-week
period.
2. Play games. A new Word Match game based on
vocabulary in the story accompanies each episode. Other games and puzzles add to
the fun.
3. Learn geography. Each story includes links to
maps that show where the site is located.
4. Participate
in contests. As children prepare for each story’s contest, they expand and
deepen their knowledge. Winners receive prizes that relate to the World Heritage
Site featured in the story.
5. Follow their curiosity.
Children can learn more about the animals and places in the stories by following
links in "Sonya's Picks." For example, while the Everglades story is running,
Sonya provides several links to informative websites about alligators.
A
new adventure story is posted every two months. The current adventure takes
place in Everglades National Park. In the coming months, Sonya will explore Mesa
Verde National Park; Yellowstone National Park; the historic center of Salvador,
Brazil; and Monticello. Earlier stories remain posted on the website.
The
free e-zine announces the next World Heritage Pointer episode and provides links
to subscriber-only pages on the website, such as Word Match. The e-zine is
published the first and third Friday of each month.
The website, www.WorldHeritagePointer.com, and its e-zine are published by
