Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) January 25, 2005 -- The Xavier University Players proudly presents the tristate’s regional premier of Dead Man Walking adapted for the stage by Tim Robbins at The Gallagher Student Center Theater, on the Xavier University campus, 15 University Drive, in Cincinnati, on February 24-27 at 7:30 pm. with an additional Sunday matinee at 2 pm. Plenty of free parking is available nearby. Tickets are available in advance by calling the box office at 513-745-3576.

Xavier University is the only theatre in the tristate region producing this new adaptation of Dead Man Walking by Tim Robbins. Based on the nonfiction book by Sister Helen Prejean, the riveting drama was an acclaimed major motion picture released in 1996 starring Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn.

Directed by Cathy Springfield, Dead Man Walking stars Xavier University seniors Andy Oare as convicted killer Matthew Poncelet and Katy Leslie as Sr. Helen Prejean. A film detailing the rape and murder of Hope Percy and the murder of Walter Deleacroix will be a part of this drama. CCM sound designer Chuck Hatcher joins the Xavier production team in creating a moving soundscape for the intimate production.

Time is running out for a convicted death row inmate. The clock is ticking as the time of Matthew Poncelet's execution draws near. A convicted killer, Poncelet enlists the help of Sister Helen Prejean, a Catholic nun who becomes his spiritual advisor as he desperately tries to gain a stay of execution. At the same time, Sister Prejean also comes to know the families of Poncelet’s victims and the men who will execute him. From this dreadful intimacy comes a moving spiritual journey through our system of capital punishment confronting both the plight of the condemned and the rage of the bereaved in our crime-ridden society.

The Xavier University Players’s exclusive production will be coordinated with other campus activities and explorations into the subject of capital punishment. For more details, call Cathy Springfield at 513-745-3578.
