(PRWEB) February 1, 2005 -- Hollywood Graphics originated with the desire for my father and family in South Carolina to be able to see my little girls. The most useful way for that to happen was to create a website, complete with domain name, and post their pictures on the internet. Word spread that I created websites and, after roughly 2 years’ time and additional inquiries, I had established 12 websites. The name, “Hollywood Graphics”, has a humorous beginning. I was working as a detail designer and computer animator for a drilling rig company and my boss was so impressed with my animations, he nicknamed me Hollywood because he said that’s where I should be working. It’s now 15 years later and the name is now part of my business.

Approximately six years ago, I ventured into the world of video and animation and began shooting video of drilling rigs and equipment in the field. I found myself producing more and more corporate video, creating all versions of VHS tapes (PAL/SECAM/NTSC) and sending them worldwide. Some time ago, a friend approached me and asked that I videotape her wedding. After it was over, I knew immediately that this was what I wanted to do. After inserting the word “videography” to my business name, I transferred all my websites over to a friend and, as of today, continue to produce professional wedding and special event videos.

During my first professional job, I became quite familiar with the family and their personalities. I recall how excited the family became when they spoke of how they would be able to see their little girl getting married “on TV”. Their smiles and excitement was all I needed to grasp that the job I would be doing would have a major impact on their memories. It was at that point that I realized how important and personal an honest, well-designed wedding video meant to families. It became my goal to present them with a product that, when watching it again, would evoke the same emotions they felt during the actual event. As foolish as it may sound, my reward comes from the compliments and the letters and praise that my customers bestow upon me. Whenever a referral hires me for a job, I know I am doing something right.

Back when I married my wonderful wife, I thought I would save money by having a friend videotape my wedding. Honestly, how difficult could it be for someone to hold a camera and tape for one hour? Well, I found out quickly and it’s a decision I regret completely. I had no idea what went into a professionally-produced wedding video or how many things could go wrong. Our “wedding” video turned out to be a movie of two people dressed in fancy clothes riding a roller coaster with the camera continually moving, zooming in and out, stopping, starting, etc. It was distracting and nauseating at the same time.

Upon seeing how the salesmen in my company benefit from the corporate videos I shoot, I realized how important the video medium can be. Even more so for weddings and special events since, as a participant, you miss so many small details. You can not see the grandmother crying at the words, “I do” or “I love you.” I ensure that you see all the spoken and unspoken moments of the day. Video captures all the emotions, the gentle touch of family and has the ability to bring us to tears, make us laugh or just give us that warm, fuzzy feeling. If your videographer does a poor job, all the wonderful moments have slipped away and all you are reminded of is how deprived you’ve been. You’ve been robbed of lasting memories simply because the person you hired was not able to correctly produce your video.

In the world of video, you generally find the same service with the same equipment and whatever company you contract with can capture a fabulous event. My aim is to make certain that my customers are happy because that’s when I get excited. I enjoy giving my customers something that they either did not ask for or adding a little something extra to my package that was not considered. My own wedding video is my conscience and reason for going out of my way to please my customers. The last thing I want is a couple unable to share a beautiful memory with their children or each other. Consequently, if I see an opportunity to add a photo montage, add extra video footage for the family, create special bonus features in the DVD, etc., I will grab it because a happy customer usually ends up being a friend. I do not believe in penny-pinching, but in charging for a professional product. Even if I am not selected as the couple’s videographer, I always let them know that they can contact me any time they have questions or need advice. Being a professional means acting like one so I take the time to ensure their time has not been wasted. My company’s catch phrase is done for every customer: “Bringing the art of Hollywood into your home.”

I am asked for advice and tips on general video and software on a regular basis so in order to give accurate information, I must stay as up-to-date as possible on the ever-changing world of technology as it applies to my business. I subscribe to many newsletters, visit many forums, do quite a bit of reading and attend as many seminars as possible. I download trial software to see what works best for me and try different pieces of hardware to find out how it will benefit my business and make me more productive. I have numerous friends who teach and write books on the video business and we continually exchange ideas.

The biggest challenge my company faces is competing with disreputable companies. You know the ones where they say they can produce the best quality video for a bargain basement price only to discover that it’s impossible to achieve. What started out as a $400.00 deal has exploded into a $4,000 one without you having any recourse but to pay. With all the equipment that is required to produce a professional video from start to finish, $400.00 is an unrealistic amount. I have rescued brides by re-editing their wedding video to save them from embarrassment. The other challenge that my business faces is one that the video industry in general has faced over the years and that is the belief that creating a professional video should be inexpensive. The amount of work and hardware that goes into a quality video is quite considerable and the end product is well worth more than what the industry is charging. But, within the past few years, that misconception is changing for the better. People are starting to see more value in video production than many of the other aspects involved in a special event.

This is a great question with a simple answer: making people happy and seeing the enjoyment on their face and in their eyes. I liken a videographer to an artist: each starts with a clean slate (tape or canvas) and the aim is to create a masterpiece for all to enjoy and share for years.

I strive each and every day to become more accomplished in my field and bring family and friends together to enjoy and relive all the wonderful memories of an event. Hollywood Graphics Videography will continue to be a professional business, creating professional work at a worthwhile price and will work with each and every family on every aspect of their event so they feel completely comfortable and satisfied with my company and its product.
