Yoga Yoga Hosts "Yoga In Small Communities Conference"
Yoga students and teachers invited to learn more about bringing yoga to small communities.
(PRWEB) August 16, 2005 -- Yoga Yoga, along with presenting sponsor Yoga
International magazine, will host a Yoga in Small Communities Conference on
October 14-16, 2005, at Yoga Yoga Westgate, 4477 South Lamar, in Austin, Texas.
The goal of the Yoga in Small Communities conference is to bring yoga teachers
and students together to address the opportunities and challenges particular to
teaching and practicing yoga in small communities.
“One of the most
profound changes in yoga in this new century is the accessibility and
receptiveness afforded to it by people in small communities,” says Mehtab
Benton, founder of Yoga Yoga and director of its teacher training programs. “No
longer is yoga only for the university town or the big city, it is being widely
taught in churches, fitness centers, and studios in even the smallest
communities. Every year we train dozens of teachers who take yoga back to their
home towns, in some cases for the very first time. While this is an exciting
development, teaching yoga in small communities represents a real challenge to
teachers who now must mainstream an experience for middle America that was once
the jealously guarded domain of rock stars, health nuts, and aging
hippies.”
In addition to sessions on retail and other income
opportunities, becoming a yoga teacher, and various other topics regarding
teaching and practicing yoga in a small community, there will be break-out
sessions to encourage networking and discussion amongst the participants at this
conference. Teachers will gain helpful marketing and financial information for
succeeding in small markets, and students will learn how to deepen their
practice and apply the lessons of yoga to their everyday lives. Some of the
scheduled workshops include “On your OM: Building a Yoga Practice and
Lifestyle,” “Marketing Small for Big Results,” “Teaching at Home, Opening a
Studio, or Hitting the Road,” and “Bringing Big-Time Yogis to Your Little Town.”
Break-out session topics include “Keeping Your Yoga Juicy (Avoiding Burn-Out and
Boredom), “Demystifying Yoga in a Small Community”, and “Yoga Success Stories
and Scientific Research.”
A special six-hour intensive on teaching yoga
to seniors will kick off the conference and offer insight into the
ever-expanding market of older adults. Those attending the Teaching Yoga to
Seniors intensive can earn continuing education credits. CECs/CEUs can also be
earned for attending the conference, and certificates will be issued upon
request.
The conference fee is $295 with discounts available for multiple
registrations. The Teaching Yoga to Seniors intensive is $95 for conference
attendees or $125 for people attending only the intensive. For details and
