Local Team Practices for Laser Tag Championships
Lazer Park to host regional qualifying laser tag tournament.
(PRWEB) May 6, 2005 -- On May 13, 2005, Lazer Park in Times Square, New York
City, at 6 p.m., teams will compete in a Regional Qualifying Tournament for the
Lasertron World Championships laser tag competition. Stealth’s Bombers, composed
of New York City players, hopes to compete for their portion of the $10,000
prize pool.
Over 20 teams with players ranging in age from 11 to 50 are
expected at the World Championships. To be eligible for the World Championships
held in August in Buffalo, NY, teams must first compete and qualify at one of 11
Regional Tournaments. Lazer Park was selected as a regional location for the
tournament from amongst 85 Lasertron laser tag-equipped sites in the United
States.
Members of Stealth’s Bombers have been playing laser tag together
for 8 years. Regular players at Lazer Park, they have always been able to
outplay and outscore most local competition.
“We kind of grew up playing
laser tag. We were excited at this opportunity to play against players from
around the country,” noted team captain, James Sorrentino.
Eight to ten
area teams will compete for an opportunity to attend the Regional Tournament.
Stealth’s Bombers is expected to be a top contender for the local
crown.
“The Championships are a great program. I’m proud that some of our
New York City players may be amongst the best in the world,” said Lazer Park
facility owner, Marc Epstein.
The Lasertron World Championships is the
first tournament to offer a cash prize since the mid 1980’s when one company
controlled 90% of the laser tag marketplace. Once thought of as an entertainment
fad, laser tag has surged worldwide in the past two years. There are over 600
laser tag facilities in North America alone with millions of players around the
world.
Laser tag is a sport where players wear high-tech vests and
attempt to tag opposing players in a space-age arena. A computer keeps track of
scoring to determine a winner.
Players may still sign up for the Regional
Tournament at Lazer Park. Lazer Park, a family entertainment center featuring a
laser tag arena, arcade and virtual reality games, has been open for business
since 1997.
