Author Kathryn Marion helps students and young people sidestep the "School of Hard Knocks."
Erie, CO (PRWEB via PR Web Direct)
April 14, 2005 — Education for Reality™ announces the ten-year anniversary
e-book publishing of "Success in the 'Real World': The Graduate's Complete Guide
to Making the Most of Your Career (And Your Life!)" by Kathryn Marion. Since
announced that the e-book would be made available free of charge until April
20th, career counselors, honor societies, parents, and students themselves have
requested copies to distribute to their entire student bodies or memberships—to
the tune of 1.8 million copies. For a free copy of "Success in the 'Real
World,'" visit http://www.EducationforReality.com.
"I am hearing now
exactly the same thing I heard back in 1995 from parents and employers of
college graduates," notes author Kathryn Marion. "Young people can name every
mountain in South America, but can’t seem to find the grocery store on their
own, or can calculate equations a foot long, but can’t balance their own
checkbooks. Academics and parental advice are still leaving a huge experience
gap in the area of basic life skills."
"Success in the 'Real World'" was
first published in traditional paperback, but is being released for its tenth
anniversary in electronic format to exponentially increase its value to readers
by providing "live links" to additional resources available online. The book was
extremely well received when it was first published and received positive
attention; however, with a 2,000-mile move and motherhood making major changes
in her life, Ms. Marion felt she needed to focus on her new family
responsibilities rather than the book.
Now, a decade later, she notes,
"It's sad to see that extremely little progress has been made during these past
ten years in preparing our young people for real life. I feel a very strong
conviction to pick up where I left off and take on the task of helping students
avoid having to enroll in the 'School of Hard Knocks.' We've made all those
mistakes already. Today's young people shouldn’t have to as well. This book, if
truly utilized, can definitely make a big impact and help them avoid learning it
all the hard way."
According to Allen Powell, Executive Director of the
National Technical Honor Society who has requested the book for its 40,000
student members, "'Success in the 'Real World'' should be required reading for
anyone who is preparing to take a place in today's turbulent business world. I
recommend it for anybody who is serious about their future and their
career."
The vast majority of school-provided counseling services focus
on finding and landing a job, providing little, if any, practical advice on
other areas of life after graduation: money management, decision making, time
management, everyday legal matters, long-range planning, cooking, or even
personal safety. The book covers all these areas in an easy-to-read and
-reference bulleted format, and goes beyond its own pages to other online
resources through live links to provide as much information about the
nitty-gritty of real life as possible.
