4th Biennial Midwest Regional Black Theatre Festival Presents New Plays by Phil Paradise, Paula Sherman, and Angela McKee
As part of its two-week festival of drama, the Cincinnati Black Theatre Company will present three new plays as part of its Readers Theatre Series. The three new plays are A Bag of Groceries by Phil Paradise; Spinners, Sponsors & Stragglers by Angela McKee; and My Father, My Uncle, and Neighbor Next Door by Paula Sherman.
Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) April 3, 2004--As part of its two-week festival of
drama, musicals, workshops, poetry, for adults and children, the Cincinnati
Black Theatre Company will present three new plays as part of its Readers
Theatre Series. The Readers Theatre performances will take place on April 5, 6,
& 7, 2004 at 7 pm.
Phil Paradise’s drama/comedy A Bag of Groceries
will be presented at the Cincinnati Museum Center, 1301 Western Avenue,
Cincinnati, Ohio, on Monday, April 5, at 7 pm. A Bag of Groceries focuses on
culture clash and the challenges of communication in an inner city park. When
the three main characters get talking, sparks fly and it’s like group therapy on
the street--everybody seems to have some baggage they’re
carrying.
Originally from Kensington, Connecticut, Mr. Paradise is a
playwright, business owner, and consultant. A former university professor, Mr.
Paradise is a member of The Author’s Guild and The Dramatist’s Guild of America.
Phil Paradise and his family live in Highland Heights, Kentucky. His plays The
Anniversary and Lover, Thief, Angel of Death received stage readings in the
Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative New Voices Series.
Angela McKee’s
Spinners, Sponsors & Stragglers will be presented at the Arts Consortium,
1515 Linn Street, Cincinnati, Ohio, on Tuesday, April 6, at 7pm. Ms. McKee's
play Spinners, Sponsors & Stragglers is a suspense comedy with a
supernatural twist. Tyrone, once very dapper, has fallen on hard times
financially, so he hits upon the bright idea of finding a woman to help support
his crumbling lifestyle, but he gets his comeuppance from trying to canoodle
with the wrong woman.
Angela McKee, originally from Dayton, Ohio, has
lived in Harlem USA for over twenty years. Ms. McKee is a playwright, actor,
director and model. A former Ebony Fashion Fair model, Ms. McKee has modeled in
Europe and Africa, and appeared in Ebony and Essence and other publications. As
an actor, Angela McKee has appeared on the TV series Law & Order, Third
Watch, The Jury, and is currently working on the independent film Alone. Ms.
McKee has worked as a director for Frank Silvera’s Writers’ Workshop, The
Strollers Players, and the Times Square Playwrights in New York
City.
Paula Sherman’s play My Father, My Uncle, and Neighbor Next Door
will be presented at Cincinnati Museum, 1301 Western Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio,
on Wednesday, April 7, at 7 pm. Ms. Sherman’s play My Father, My Uncle, and
Neighbor Next Door tells the story of Evelyn, a 24 year old only child, who
reunites with her father after she receives a compelling letter from her uncle
detailing her father’s recent brush with death. Returning to her hometown and
seeing her father after 17 years of estrangement cause a myriad of questions and
secrets to unfold.
Paula Sherman is a native of Springfield, Ohio, and
the proud mother of four beautiful children. Ms. Sherman is the Associate
Director for the Arts Consortium of Cincinnati. She enjoys running and writing
in her spare time.
