The Home Depot Offers Help for Their Working Parents

Kennesaw, GA (PRWEB) August 13, 2005 -- Home Depot associates are used to the
idea of helping. After all, their slogan is “You can do it. We can help.” Now
these associates are receiving help from their employer in dealing with the
balance between their Home Depot job and their other full-time job of parenting.
Dr. Michael Popkin, Ph.D., founder of Active Parenting Publishers and
author of “Doc Pop’s 52 Weeks of Active Parenting”, will be addressing an
audience of parents at The Home Depot Store Support Center in Atlanta on
Tuesday, Aug. 16 during a Lunch and Learn seminar.
Dr. Popkin will be
helping these working parents navigate the sometimes choppy waters of raising
children in today’s complicated society with proven ideas and skills. Doc Pop
will demonstrate to Home Depot associates ways to:
* open communication with
their children
* discipline positively—without yelling or spanking
* teach
responsibility
* make their home life more satisfying and
rewarding
“Today’s working parents have dual priorities,” notes Dr.
Popkin. “Companies like The Home Depot that are committed to helping them
succeed at both are building winning relationships.”
“Taking care of our
people is a core value at The Home Depot, and one we take very seriously,” notes
Layne Thome, Director of Associates. “This will be a great opportunity for us
all to tackle challenging issues and learn some valuable skills we can use both
at home and at work.”
The Home Depot currently offers ongoing parenting
seminars for parents of children starting as young as two and going all the way
to the teen years. They recently added a new seminar designed to help parents
help their children succeed in school. During the first offering of this course
some associates had to be turned away when more parents signed up than the class
could hold. This is a popular and well-attended seminar by dads looking for ways
to get involved in their children’s day-to-day activities. Home Depot associates
also have the opportunity to sign up for an online parenting class, the ideal
solution for those who travel or are located at remote locations.
While
working with unhappy families as a former marriage and family therapist in
Atlanta Dr. Popkin became convinced that parents were not receiving the tools
they needed to help their children become responsible, contented adults. He
founded Active Parenting Publishers in 1983 to provide effective books and
videos to parents and educators, including the bestselling Active Parenting Now.
He is widely known for his expertise in the field of parent education and has
appeared on over 100 TV programs, including CNN and “The Oprah Winfrey
Show.”
