(PRWEB) July 20, 2005 -- The Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) is rolling
out the proverbial red carpet as "The Gospel of John" will be shown in its
entirety with no commercial interruptions on the world's largest religious
network on Friday, July 22 at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday, July 23 at 2 p.m.
(PST).
Paul Crouch Jr., Vice President of Administration and frequent
host of the popular TBN program, "Behind the Scenes," officially announced that
the network has secured the exclusive rights to broadcast the world premier of
"The Gospel of John," the story of Jesus Christ's life as told by the apostle
John and narrated by internationally acclaimed Canadian actor, Christopher
Plummer, a veteran of over 80 motion pictures.
Plummer, no stranger to
the genre of Biblical cinema, says he welcomed the opportunity to participate in
the word-for-word version of "The Gospel of John" as the film's narrator.
According to Plummer, he was absolutely riveted to the story in the film.
"For many, it's part of their childhood, yet for the first time it
seemed totally fresh and new to me," he says.
"The world premier of "The
Gospel of John" on TBN is a clear example of this network's ever increasing
commitment to broadcast thought-provoking venues that impact people from all
walks of life in a positive and uplifting manner, while engaging their mind as
well as their spirit," reports Crouch, the eldest son of TBN founders Paul and
Jan Crouch.
Susan Zahn, founding director of WDC Media and publicist for
TBN, says that Crouch and other senior VP's at the network worked diligently for
over two years to secure the rights to televise "The Gospel of John."
"TBN is absolutely thrilled to have acquired such a powerful and
significant motion picture as "The Gospel of John," says Zahn.
Here's
what film critics are saying:
* The Associate Press proclaimed "The Gospel of
John" to be "Thought-Provoking Entertainment."
* The Seattle Times called
the movie, "A sprawling, visually stunning work."
"The Gospel of John"
features 75 principle actors and over 2,000 extras, and it hosts such notable
talent as Henry Ian Cusick in the lead role as Jesus Christ.
Cusick, who
brings a uniquely touching and human portrayal of Jesus Christ to the screen in
"The Gospel of John," was born in Peru and raised in Trinidad and Scotland. He
now resides in England with his wife, Annie, and their three boys—Elias, Lucas,
and Esau. The film also stars Daniel Kash as Simon Peter, Stephen Russell as
Pontius Pilate, and Scott Handy in the role of John the Baptist.
"The
Gospel of John" was produced by Visual Bible International Inc. in association
with Garth H. Drabinsky and Joel Michaels. The film was directed by Philip
Saville and adapted for the screen by screenwriter, John Goldsmith.
"The
Gospel of John" musical score was created by composer Jeff Danna and Nicholas
Dodd, the orchestrator and conductor. The film features a variety of ancient
musical instruments that originated more than 2,000 years ago, including the
Shofar (ram's horn).
"The Gospel of John," which opened on September 26,
2003, in select theaters across the U.S., has been considered by some to have
been the pre-cursor to Mel Gibson's hugely successful, "The Passion of the
Christ," which made box office history in 2004.
"Both films, though
different in their creative portrayals of Christ, have shown Hollywood
executives that people want movies that accurately depict the life of Christ and
Bible events," says Michael J. Vlach, Ph.D., founder of TheologicalStudies.org,
a one-stop Christian information and news site.
It is estimated that
"The Gospel of John" could reach a potential global audience of 100 million
during its televised world premiere on TBN.
