Non-Profit Foundation Creates Safe Havens for Young Global Travelers
The Alyson Ilene Kaplan Memorial Foundation has announced the creation of the Global Safe Haven Network of safe locations that provides education, support, and protection for young domestic and international travelers.
(PRWEB) March 1, 2005 -- The Alyson Ilene Kaplan Memorial Foundation has
announced the creation of the Global Safe Haven Network.
Founded by the parents of a 20-year-old college student who was stranded in
London and later murdered, the AIK Foundation is developing a global network of
safe
haven locations comprised of easily identifiable, global corporations, such
as hotel and restaurant chains, where young travelers can go should they find
themselves in distress.
At these safe havens, they will
have access to the Global Safe Haven emergency hotline, which will provide them
with immediate crisis information regarding medical issues, transportation
failure, separation from travel groups or partners, emergency funds, and other
safe shelters.
Through the strategic alliance with the travel risk
management organization iJET, the AIK Foundation can provide both free and
membership-based services available to all young travelers and their parents.
The comprehensive website allows the creation of a personalized webpage. Once
the traveler logs in their itinerary, they will receive updated daily alerts
that could pertain to their safety, as well as the locations of Global Safe
Havens specific to the region in which they are traveling.

About AIK Foundation
The
Alyson Ilene Kaplan Memorial Foundation, established in February 2003, is the
product of personal tragedy. Alyson, a 20-year-old college student, was stranded
in London when her travel plans were interrupted by a storm. Lost in an
unfamiliar environment, she sought aid from someone she met at a train station,
who would later murder her. Her parents, Donald and Joanne Kaplan, are dedicated
to reducing the risks for young travelers through education to ensure safe
travel, support for travelers, and protection in case of emergencies. It is in
this purpose that they created the Global Safe Haven
Network.
