Competition Encourages Youth to Lead in Advocating Non-Violence
Arizona youths (ages 6 – 18) are combining their passion and ingenuity to create posters and poetry that express their beliefs about the importance of a violence-free community.
(PRWEB) August 16, 2005 -- For the eighth consecutive year the Children’s
Benefit Foundation Inc., an Arizona 501 © (3) organization, is sponsoring a
competition to encourage youth to become thought leaders and advocates for
non-violence in their community.
Entries are being accepted between now
and September 26, 2005. Prizes will be awarded in three age categories (6-11,
12-15, and 16-18) for both the poster and poetry
categories.
Students are encouraged to use their
imaginations and creativity to produce posters or write poetry that expresses
their hopes for peace and non violence in their communities and the world. The
submissions will then be reviewed by a panel of community leaders, coordinated
through the Mesa/Surprise Rotary.
Recognition will be provided to all the
participants with prizes awarded on October 8, 2005 during the closing
celebration of the Week of Non-Violence which will be held at St. Mathew’s
Episcopal Church in Mesa.
“At the United Nations’ 53rd session - there
was a unanimous vote declaring 2001-2010 as the decade for a Culture of Peace
and Nonviolence for the Children of the World.” shared Dr. Ruth Tan Lim., one of
he event’s organizers. “Campaign/Champions Advocating Nonviolence or ‘C.A.N.®’ .
was formed after that to promote a culture of nonviolence through awareness,
education, participation and involvement. Especially with our young people, we
can make nonviolence a way of life.”
