Children's Books - "The 1,2,3 Bees" Creates Big Buzz with Little Readers
Barnes & Noble and Amazon to sell new author Nicole Wheldon's children's book. A portion of the proceeds to benefit The Way to Happiness Foundation International.
(PRWEB) March 1, 2005 -- California native Nicole Wheldon, author of the
newly released (28 Feb 2005) children’s book, “The 1, 2, 3 Bees”, has combined
her love of poetry and nature to create a counting book that is creating quite a
buzz with local children.
Born and raised in San Francisco and Los Gatos,
CA, she settled in Los Angeles 28 years ago. Now a grandmother of two, Nicole
divides her time between family, her work as a professional consultant, and the
community volunteer work she loves to do in the Foothill area where she lives
with her husband Brian, a local real estate investor.
Says Wheldon,
“Helping children find happiness through learning was the inspiration for my
book and the nature in my backyard was a perfect backdrop for my poems. We have
a creek that runs through the yard, 8 oak trees, flowers that bloom throughout
the seasons, and bees and hummingbirds that come through, so it really IS like
the little world I created in the book.”
From the opening line, ‘Ring the
bluebells. Call the bees! It’s time to learn our 1, 2, 3s…’ to its final page,
each number from 1 to 10 is depicted in lavish drawings of native plants and
wildflowers, with happy little bee babies that play hide and seek under wild
mushroom caps, hitch a ride on the back of a dragonfly and roller blade through
the pages of their fantasy world and straight into the hearts of young
readers.
“I’ve always felt that learning should be cheerful and I wanted
to create a book that would make counting fun”, said the author Nicole when
asked why she chose to write a children’s book. “I wanted the book to have the
proper balance between the numbers, words and pictures, so that children would
have an easy time grasping the concepts. Diana Zourelias-Noro, a graduate from
the Ivy School of Professional Art did a wonderful job of helping me to achieve
that with her playful watercolor illustrations.”
“During the past year
while completing the project, I’ve read the book to children all over Los
Angeles from ages 2 to 4 and have had the older children through 8 yrs old read
it to me to see how they liked it. The younger ones, of course, really liked the
illustrations, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much the older kids loved
to read the story themselves. A few 7-8 yr olds mentioned that they normally
struggle with reading but between knowing the numbers and being able to see the
illustrations to help work out the other words, they actually read the whole
book on their own. It’s heartwarming to see the children win at learning and to
see the parents' stress level go down. It makes me happy to be able to give
something back to the families of the community that I love", added Nicole.
Nicole is generously donating a portion of proceeds from her book to The
Way to Happiness Foundation International.
Based in Los Angeles,
California, The Way to Happiness Foundation International is an internationally

"Counting can be
really fun with these silly bees. They get into all kinds of mischief floating
in a lily pond and exploring the shore. Colorful, animated illustrations will
entice any child into counting! Rated: 5 Stars"
