Operation Thunder: A Military Supported War Plan that Can Literally End Global Terror
The Bush war plan for defeating global terror is called the National Strategy For Combating Terror. Lieutenant Colonel Beech at the US Army War College wrote a Strategy Research Paper, published in July 2004, which analyses the Bush War Plan. He identifies the “four sources of emergence” which give rise to global terror, and makes strategic recommendations. The Beech War Plan calls for solutions for these roots of the global terror war. If these campaigns are made massive and central, then a modernized war plan emerges, Operation Thunder, which can end global terror.
(PRWEB) September 8, 2004 -- The ultimate goal of our US government is
national security, the brass ring of our nation, via our basic values of "life,
liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." All agree on this. To this end, national
objectives are formed by the President and his policy advisors, to be achieved
by way of a specific grand strategy (also called national strategy). If the
military instrument is used then the Department of Defense designs strategies
and operations to implement the grand strategy and accomplish the national
mission. All agree on this.
Given the new situation the USA needs to
develop a new national strategy directive for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The USA should be a major force and leader, as the world superpower, and conduct
a massive, top priority campaign to fix this region’s Israeli-Palestinian
problem. Here is the critical point: a single western-style, democratic Jewish
state is by definition unworkable. The majority of people there are Muslims, and
so - by way of the democratic vote - it will in fact be an Islamic state. It
simply can’t work. Thus only a just, two-state solution, accepted by both
parties, is workable.
This is a reality, which our government officials
need to acknowledge, and soon, because this hot spot is generating tremendous
amounts of rancor in the Muslim world. In fact, it is used in the recruitment
propaganda of al Qaeda, helping them everyday to grow their ranks. The USA must
take a leading role in fixing this region’s Israeli-Palestinian problem, not by
a military presence, but by massive psyops and strong diplomatic negotiating
efforts at the Camp David level. We are the world superpower, and it is now time
to flex our vast power, in the service of global liberty. President Bush calls
it winning the "war of ideas" and the central idea to win is global liberty -
every state has a right to its liberty. And President Bush has already
initiated, and is actively promoting, this global liberty movement.
A
major component of our national strategy should be to help average Muslims unite
around this universal ideal of global liberty. Then the law-abiding Muslims who
are against all terrorist attacks on innocent people - including terrorist
attacks on innocent Muslims - will be seen by the West as exactly that, and so
will be welcomed into the international community. The overwhelmingly vast
majority of Muslims will be glad to get on-board, and be glad to be accepted and
respected as members of the international community and its core principle of
global liberty. And this will drain the pool of potential terrorist Muslim
recruits. This honorable alternative, and once and for all fixing the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict, are two components of the only logical national
strategy for ending the global terror war.
A military officer at the US
Army War College, Lieutenant Colonel Michael F. Beech recently published a
Strategy Research Paper which clearly supports these objectives. This SRP was
published in July of 2004, and can be viewed at their website:http://www.carlisle.army.mil/usacsl/IPapers.asp#P11
In
his SRP LTC Beech provides military intelligence on the global terror war
situation, and makes strategic recommendations. It is clear that we have arrived
at the same general conclusions. Here are some quotes from his Strategy Research
Paper:
1. "Despite US military successes, al Qaeda retains a demonstrated
ability to recruit and conduct operations globally ... The goals and objectives
articulated in the current US strategy (national strategy) are all necessary
elements to disrupt future acts of terror against the US homeland. However,
attacking the constituent parts of the al Qaeda network will not by itself
defeat it ... the US national strategy to defeat terrorism recognized that
finding a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian issue is a central component in
combating terrorism. ... (but) ... the strategy has no provisions for
strengthening legitimate alternatives to terrorism in achieving popular
pan-Islamic interests."
2. "Several of al Qaeda’s interests coincide with
those of a great multitude of Arabs and Muslims. ... The popularity of al
Qaeda’s goals combined with the lack of alternatives provides for its continued
emergence. ... A strategy to diminish the ... terrorist network will have to
accomplish two objectives: first, the strategy must identify, foster, and enable
alternative ... networks ... and second, the strategy needs to redress the ...
sources ...To accomplish the second strategic objective the US must focus all
its elements of power ... to diminish the sources ... Specifically, the US and
its allies must work to find a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict."
From the above quotes we can see that LTC Beech’s war plan
includes all of the current war plan, but extends it to include diminishing the
other three sources of emergence (see paper), and providing provisions to
strengthen legitimate alternatives to terrorism. This is a better war plan,
given the new situation.
So LTC Beech’s plan and my plan are clearly
proposing the same general strategic objectives. We differ only on the point
that my plan calls for them to be central and massive. The time is now, and our
children deserve better then daily terror alerts. The national war plan needs to
become Operation Thunder. The third grand strategy mission (diminishment) needs
to become absolutely central and massive. The "war of ideas" must focus on the
core principle of global liberty, and the four sources of emergence. And a
central and massive operation must be conducted to produce a just, two-state
solution, acceptable to both sides, for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This
national strategy, Operation Thunder, has the ability to end the global terror
war.
