(PRWEB) July 24, 2005 -- Fundacion Amistad and Lily Duke, Founder &
President, present the Fourth Annual Images OF Cuba Gala themed “Dancing at
Tropicana: A Night in Old Havana.” Celebrating the vibrancy and elegance of
historic Havana, the evening will feature cocktails, dinner, an art auction, and
dancing to the incredible music of Luis Bauzo and his 16 Piece
Band.
Tropicana, the legendary Cuban nightclub that opened in 1939, was
the brightest jewel in 1950’s Cuban nightlife. Still going strong, it
demonstrates how music and dance can surmount cultural, political and social
boundaries.
Fundacion Amistad’s mission is to deepen the American and
Cuban people’s understanding and appreciation of each other’s culture, history
and society. It sponsors a broad range of cultural and humanitarian programs to
bridge the gap between the people of the United States and Cuba. Proceeds from
the Images of Cuba event will help sustain these vital initiatives.
The
Cross Cultural Understanding Award recipient will be Rosa Lowinger, Author,
"Tropicana Nights" (Harcourt 2005). Gala Co-Chairs include Luly & Tony Duke,
Olga Garay, Marlene Hess & James Zirin, Elena & Ned Lord, Alberto
Magnan, Maria Pessino.
The gala will take place on Wednesday, October 26,
2005, 7:00 PM at Manhattan Penthouse, 80 Fifth Avenue at 14th Street, New York
City.
