The Essential Humility of Poets and Skylarks
Celebrated as a poet, historian, journalist, essayist, and writer of fiction, U.S. author and former Air Force editor Aberjhani continues to win the hearts of readers with fourth poem published this year (2005) in popular ESSENCE Magazine.
(PRWEB) August 21, 2005 -- With a total of three poems published this year in
the April and May editions of the world-famous ESSENCE Magazine, celebrated
author Aberjhani has achieved what few poets have with the publication of a
fourth poem in the August 2005 issue of the magazine.
The author’s poem,
“Fulton Street/The Series,” is presented on page 179 and also slated for
publication in ELEMENTAL, his book of art and poetry with the award-winning
Savannah artist Luther E. Vann. “This is actually the fourth poem they have
published from ELEMENTAL, which is somewhat unprecedented for a book that hasn’t
hit the market yet,” said Aberjhani. “But I’m extremely grateful because this
particular poem actually contains both my name and Luther E. Vann’s in the text
itself. That’s a pretty special kind of honor to receive from a magazine with a
circulation of seven million readers worldwide.”
Featured on the cover of
the August ESSENCE is acclaimed actor Terrence Howard, currently wowing movie
fans with his roles in several recent films, including: Crash, Hustle &
Flow, Four Brothers, and the Outkast HBO musical, My Life In Idlewild. Other
noted writers and poets in the issue include: Eric Jerome Dickey, Michael Eric
Dyson, Lisa Gillard, Haki R. Madhudbuti, Sierra Leone, Askia M. Toure, Maria
Chisolm, and Akwasi Agyeman.
In addition to his work in ESSENCE,
Aberjhani also recently joined the international line-up of writers and artists
featured on the stylish EXPOSE'D web site. Like his own site, known as The Black
Skylark Z-Ped Music Player, the EXPOSE'D we site showcases his fiction and
creative nonfiction as well as his poetry. EXPOSE’S holds the advantage of
containing new and previously unpublished writings by the author. However,
presented on The Black Skylark Z-Ped Music Player are poetry and prose dedicated
to the great singer Luther Vandross (April 20, 1951-July 1, 2005). Consequently,
both sites are well worth the visit.
Furthermore, writers and readers
around the world on the Internet honored the author’s life and work with
tributes presented in honor of his birthday in July. The author-poet also holds
the distinction of winning this year the Choice Academic Title Award and Memphis
Black Writers Conference Best Historical Book Award for The Encyclopedia of the
Harlem Renaissance (co-authored by Sandra L. West). His other published books
are: I Made My Boy Out of Poetry, and The Wisdom of W. E. B. Du Bois.
Because of increasing interest in his writings, the Savannah-born
author, whose career began as an editor for the U.S. Air Force in Alaska and
Great Britain, is currently communicating with various speaker bureaus to
prepare for live presentations of his work toward the latter part of 2005 and
throughout 2006. At present, readers and interested organizations may contact
him through his web sites.
