Announcing the Release of a New Curtis Knight CD Titled “Sing a Song for Freedom”
This new CD contains never before released songs written and performed by Curtis Knight, the man who discovered Jimi Hendrix.
(PRWEB) June 4, 2005 -- Golden Sphinx Records is proud to announce that a
special tribute CD has been released to the public which contains never before
released songs from the Curtis Knight archives of music.
Curtis Knight
was born on May 9, 1929 and died on November 29, 1999. He is best known for his
connection to Jimi Hendrix and has been credited as the man who discovered Jimi
Hendrix. Curtis was a talented artist in his own right but was relegated to the
shadow of Hendrix where he was never given a fair chance to receive his just due
as a performer in his own right. Curtis Knight has a total of 187 registered
songs with BMI including such well known titles performed with Jimi Hendrix as:
Ballad of Jimi; Drivin’ South; Hush Now; Get That Feeling; Flashing; Gloomy
Monday; Don’t Accuse Me; No Business; How Would You Feel; Simon Says; Strange
Things; Future Trip; Hornet’s Nest; You Don’t Want Me; Odd Ball; Happy Birthday
and Welcome Home.
Curtis is also known for his Curtis Knight Zeus albums
“The Second Coming” and “Sea of Time” and subsequent 45 rpm singles which
contained songs such as: Zeus; Silver Queen; New Horizon; The Road Song;
Daughter of Misfortune; Mysterious Lady; Eyes of a Child; Waiting at the
Crossroads; Down in The Village; Pardon Me; Can You Spare Change; The Devil Made
Me Do It; People, Places and Things; The Game of Life; Lena; Goin’ Up The Road;
Gotta Have A New Dress and the list goes on.
This CD contains an eclectic
mix of original music recordings by Curtis Knight and is being released as a
tribute to his memory. Curtis wrote the music and lyrics, did the arrangements,
recorded and performed all of the songs on this CD, which has been compiled from
a variety of tapes created and recorded by Curtis (in partnership with Kathy
Knight) between 1976 and 1992 under the Golden Sphinx Record Label. None of
these songs were previously released, although two of them “UFO (Ain’t Nothin’
But A Disco)” and “Concert In The Sky”, each had a limited run pressing on 45
rpm records.
Curtis enjoyed experimenting with completely different
genres of music blending them into unique musical pieces. His quixotic style of
humor was present throughout his long career in music and is very evident in
some of the songs on this CD. He also wrote songs about events going on around
him that touched his heart, such as “Sing A Song For Freedom” which was written
about the Iran hostage crisis from 1979-1981.
This collection of songs
are among the best Curtis ever wrote and deserve to finally be heard and enjoyed
by his friends and fans. Anyone interested in purchasing a copy of this CD can
