US Soldier’s Death in Iraq Spawns Self-Defense Scholarship

Moved by the request to return one of its self-defense video products from a mother whose son was killed in Iraq before he even had a chance to watch the program, a US company that teaches individuals how to survive vicious life-or-death criminal attacks begins a self-defense scholarship program that puts more of its products into the hands of military, law enforcement and individuals unable to afford them.

(PRWEB) April 30, 2005 -- An email from the mother of a young soldier asking for a refund of a self-defense product her son had ordered just days before he was killed in an ambush in Iraq, has spurred a US company to initiate a self-defense scholarship program in the name of that soldier, Captain Luke Wullenwaber.

"When we first read the email from Captain Wullenwaber's mother, we were all stunned," said Tim Larkin, creator of Target-Focus(tm) Training, one of the top self-defense programs in the world today. "When something like this happens, it's just devastating. You immediately ask yourself, 'What else can we do?'"

Larkin and his crew wasted no time.

For a year he had considered creating a scholarship program that would award TFT video and DVD products to various military and law enforcement units as well as deserving individuals who otherwise could not afford them.

And so, after getting the okay from Captain Wullenwaber's mother, the Luke C. Wullenwaber TFT Memorial Scholarship program was born.

Originally planned as a quarterly offering, Larkin's company, the TFT Group, instead chose to go with monthly awards. Based on sales prices for its products, each award is worth on average from $200 to $500, and more for awards that involve multiple self-defense products.

"We were just so taken back by the character of this young man and all he'd accomplished in his short life that we are honored to recognize him with this special program," noted Larkin. "We're very excited that more than 50 people applied for this scholarship in just it's first month."

The Target-Focus Training system gives individuals the tools needed to survive an actual life-or-death confrontation. Unlike other self-defense programs that offer techniques that work only in specific situations, TFT is based on proven, scientific principles that work in any violent conflict. It is taught around the world using a variety of video products and through live training seminars held in locations such as Las Vegas, Dallas, New York City, London, Hong Kong and Sydney.
