Los Angeles Woman Entrepreneur Takes Charge Despite the Odds in Male-Dominated Professions
Gone are the days when the computer and printing industries were male-only professions. This young lady has assumed a lead role in both industries that serve businesses around the country and around the world. Overcoming barriers to achieve that dream was not easy, but this persistent and creative dynamo and public speaker is one of the few women in the industry who does not only help herself. Her kind heart opens up to other small entrepreneurs as she helps them with their marketing and technology strategies. Why is she being sought after by small businesses and what is her secret?
(PRWEB) August 7, 2004 -- It’s no secret that the technology and the printing
industries have traditionally been a male-dominated field. Ceil Hansen overcame
barriers, persisted in a difficult climate and has taken a larger role to
establish and grow not only 1, but 2 viable businesses. As a young child in
Manila, she suffered from daily doses of severe migraine headaches that were
debilitating and excruciating. She found herself missing so many school days and
when she started her career in the working world, it just got worse. As the
years went by, she has been involved in helping other migraine sufferers
overcome one of the world’s most painful diseases. Studies show that migraine
sufferers are Type A personalities, high achievers, and perfectionists.
Unfortunately, this disease led Ceil to undisclosed amounts of Emergency Room
visits and heavy doses of powerful prescription pain killers. Ceil Hansen is
still overcoming this disease to get where she is. In 1993, this entrepreneur
founded and built a computer software technology training company in Southern
California. In 2002, she took on another challenge by starting another company
that caters to the Printing and Graphic Industry.
This down-to-earth and
energetic Woodland Hills, CA-based entrepreneur communicates a strong vision for
her ventures, demonstrates unwavering commitment to achieving entrepreneurial
goals, overcame obstacles and withstood challenges, supported and collaborated
with other women entrepreneurs to form strategic alliances and leveraged
resources from the local technology community to educate herself, her team, and
accelerate her venture’s success.
Ceil Hansen is President and CEO of HCW
CONSULTING GROUP, a technology and marketing consulting firm advising senior
management of companies on critical issues of technology and marketing
operations. She is also responsible for directing the Group’s overall marketing
strategies through strategic alliances with a wide resource of networks. Over
the past few years, she has motivated hundreds of senior level executives,
entrepreneurs, lawyers, and business development managers speaking at numerous
seminars and workshops including the women’s economic development councils,
business and bar associations, university seminars, women’s professional groups,
small business seminars, and organizational meetings. Ceil has been personally
invited to be a Guest Expert on NBC Channel 4’s segment on Credit Card Fraud. As
a speaker, most of her attendees describe her as “inspiring and motivational.
She’s truly an amazing wealth of information as the real TechLady in a man’s
world!”
Ceil is also the President and CEO of ROTRABOSS, INC., an
international manufacturer and distributor of a revolutionary, patented system
that eliminates fiber cracking on bindery equipment, directing its overall
global efforts.
When Ceil started Rotraboss, she had to learn about the
bindery business from the ground up. Rolling up her sleeves with bindery
operators on the shop floor and understanding how a big piece of machinery
operates in relation to the modular unit that scores covers was the best way she
can fully understand and identify with the customers’ needs. According to Ceil,
“The only true way to understand the business and get respect from the operators
is to work with them, and comprehend their challenges. The people in this
industry are the most resourceful workers I have ever met. They are highly
creative and very down-to-earth!” Despite that, her business has been challenged
by segments of the industry that were resistant to change. But things are taking
a turn for the better because Ceil never gave up and eventually is getting more
and more contracts signed with binderies and trade printers. Rotraboss, Inc. has
since shipped its revolutionary Covercrease USA System line of creasing systems
and products to Canada, Australia, South Africa, Italy, Germany, the
Philippines, the Middle East, China, Ireland, India, Australia and to most of
the states in the U.S. Ceil attributes her success in this male-dominated
industry as she places the ultimate importance on her #1 secret: Persistence and
listening to what the customer does NOT say. At one of her recent endeavors,
Rotraboss, Inc. exhibited at the largest international trade show for the
printing industry in Dusseldorf, Germany. Ceil was one of the few women
executives making decisions on capital expenditures at the Trade Show, closing
deals with multi-billion dollar manufacturers and negotiating with presidents
and heads of commercial vendors & printers from all over the world. Top
level executives from all over the world were impressed by her professionalism
and charisma that they offered her business opportunities she never imagined
she’d acquire.
She is glad to see more and more women entering both
industries. She feels that companies can have more “female-friendly” executive
environment. How? Women in high positions with children want to have the luxury
of spending more time with them. The rewards of having these quality employees
include a high level of loyalty and commitment to these companies. Ceil is a
mother of a 10-year old little girl named, Jasmine.
What does Ceil do in
her spare time? Volunteering her expertise mostly to Senior Citizens of the
Woodland Hills community at the Woodland Hills Public Library every Wednesday at
11:00 AM brings her so much joy. She enjoys showing retirees (and the young at
heart) how to use the computer and how to safely surf the Internet. One of her
students cancelled her dental appointment just to be a part of Ceil’s free,
interactive Internet Class. According to her, “it was well worth losing my teeth
over!” These senior citizens know more about Trojans, Worms, Pop-Ups, Domains
and can tell you exactly where your computer’s security ports are!
In
March of 2000, she was awarded the prestigious “Outstanding Woman &
Minority-Owned Business of the Year/Affiliate Businesswoman of the Year” by the
University of Southern California’s Small Business Development Center and its
Business Expansion Program, USC’s Minority Business Program and the National
Association of Women Business Owners.
